Sustainable and low-emission mobility thanks to AI

The vision of Darmstadt as a city of science is to be a pioneer and international beacon as a digital city, using new technologies to make everyday life easier for people in the city. The digital solutions used to achieve this should offer secure and confident handling of data, strengthen participation in the community, and ensure a more sustainable use of resources.
One building block of this vision was the DAnalytics project (Advanced Analytics for the Science City Darmstadt – Darmstadt Analytics), which was one of the most innovative projects in the field of environmentally sensitive traffic management in Germany during its project period from 2019 to 2022.
Data platform for environmentally sensitive traffic management in the smart city
DAnalytics formed the basis of environmentally sensitive traffic management for sustainable and low-emission mobility in the science city of Darmstadt. Together with companies from its partner network, Accso supported the design and implementation of environmentally sensitive and event-oriented traffic management with traffic control and guidance functions, based on numerous sensors, traffic detectors, and modern traffic light systems. Data from the city's traffic and environmental sensor network is collected on the central data platform and processed in real time. This serves as the basis for predictions of pollutant levels and traffic condition monitoring on interactive dashboards.
„DAnalytics creates the data-based foundation for future-oriented traffic control. By integrating real-time data and intelligent forecasting models, the system enables key figure-based traffic management. Strategic decisions can not only be made on a situational basis, but also planned for the long term. In addition, DAnalytics provides reliable insights for the further development of urban mobility concepts and supports sustainable traffic planning."Olaf ArrasMobility and Civil Engineering Office of the Science City Darmstadt
